What is fibromyalgia ?

Fibromyalgia Is a long-period (chronic) condition.

It causes:

Musculoskeletal pain (pain in the musculoskeletal system).

Raqqa areas

General fatigue

Sleep and cognitive disturbances

This condition can be difficult to understand, even for health care providers. Its symptoms mimic those of other conditions, and there are no real tests to confirm the diagnosis.

In the past, some health care providers questioned whether fibromyalgia was real. The stigma surrounding her has eased.

Fibromyalgia is still difficult to treat. But medications, treatments and lifestyle changes can help you manage symptoms and improve your quality of life.

Symptoms of fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia causes what are now referred to as “pain areas.tenderness called “trigger points” or “tender points.”

The pain in these areas looks like a constant dull ache. Your healthcare provider will consider a diagnosis of fibromyalgia if you have experienced musculoskeletal pain in 4 of the five pain areas described in the 2016 revisions to the criteria for diagnosing fibromyalgia.

This diagnostic protocol is referred to as “multi-site pain”. It is in contrast to the 1990 diagnostic criteria for fibromyalgia definition of “chronic, diffuse pain”.

This diagnostic process focuses on the areas of musculoskeletal pain and the intensity of the pain rather than the duration of the pain, which was previously the central criteria for diagnosing fibromyalgia.

Other symptoms of fibromyalgia include:

fatigue

Trouble sleeping

Sleeping for long periods without feeling rested (non-refreshing sleep)

Headache

depression

Anxiety

Trouble concentrating or paying attention

Pain or dull ache in the lower abdomen

Dry eyes

Bladder problems, such as interstitial cystitis

In people with fibromyalgia, the brain and nerves may misinterpret or overreact to normal pain signals. This may be due to a chemical imbalance in the brain or dorsal root node dysfunction affecting central (brain) pain sensitivity.

Fibromyalgia can also affect your emotions and your energy level.
