Seafood Filling π¦π¦
- 1 lb (450 g) raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 8 oz (225 g) lump crab meat, drained and checked for shell
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay-style seafood seasoning
- Β½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ΒΌ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
Creamy Garlic Parmesan Sauce π§π§
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 5 garlic cloves, minced
- β cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1Β½ cups heavy cream
- 4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan
- Β½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ΒΌ teaspoon ground nutmeg, optional
- Β½ teaspoon black pepper
- Salt, to taste
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
Ricotta & Spinach Layer πΏ
- 15 oz (425 g) whole-milk ricotta
- 1 large egg
- Β½ cup grated Parmesan
- 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
- 2 tablespoons parsley
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Β½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ΒΌ teaspoon black pepper
For the Lasagna π§
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella
- Β½ cup grated Parmesan
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Step 1: Cook the Lasagna Noodles π
Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Cook the lasagna noodles until just shy of al dente, about 1β2 minutes less than the package directions.
Drain carefully.
Lay them separately on parchment paper or a lightly oiled baking sheet so they don’t stick together.
Important Tip
Don’t overcook them now.
They’ll continue cooking while the lasagna bakes.
Step 2: Prepare the Shrimp π€
Pat the shrimp completely dry.
If they’re large, chop them into bite-size pieces.
Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the shrimp.
Season with:
- Seafood seasoning
- Smoked paprika
- Black pepper
Cook for only about 1β2 minutes.
Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
The shrimp should only be partially cooked.
Add the lemon juice and immediately remove from the heat.
Don’t Overcook the Shrimp!
They’ll finish cooking inside the lasagna.
If you fully cook them now and then bake them another 40 minutes, they can become rubbery.
Step 3: Add the Crab π¦
Once the shrimp mixture has cooled slightly, gently fold in:
- Lump crab meat
- Fresh parsley
Don’t aggressively stir.
We want to keep some nice pieces of crab intact.
Set aside.
Step 4: Make the Garlic Parmesan Cream Sauce π§π§
Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
Add the garlic.
Cook for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
Sprinkle in the flour.
Whisk continuously for 1β2 minutes.
Gradually pour in the milk while whisking.
Add the heavy cream.
Cook for approximately 5β7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce begins to thicken.
Step 5: MAKE IT CHEESY π
Reduce the heat to LOW.
Add:
- Cream cheese
- Parmesan
- Italian seasoning
- Nutmeg
- Black pepper
- Lemon zest
Stir until completely smooth.
Taste before adding salt because Parmesan already contains plenty.
Perfect Consistency
The sauce should be creamy and pourable, not as thick as mashed potatoes.
Lasagna noodles absorb moisture while baking, so don’t make the sauce excessively thick.
Step 6: Make the Ricotta Filling πΏ
In a bowl, combine:
- Ricotta
- Egg
- Parmesan
- Spinach
- Parsley
- Italian seasoning
- Garlic powder
- Black pepper
Mix until combined.
Spinach Tip
If using frozen spinach instead of fresh, thaw it and squeeze it VERY dry first.
Otherwise your lasagna can become watery.
Step 7: Assemble the Seafood Lasagna π¦π§
Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Spread approximately ΒΎ cup cream sauce over the bottom.
Then build the first layer:
Lasagna noodles β ricotta mixture β seafood β cream sauce β mozzarella
Repeat until you have approximately 3 layers.
Final Layer
Finish with:
Noodles β plenty of cream sauce β mozzarella β Parmesan
Make sure the top noodles are completely covered with sauce.
Nobody wants crunchy, dry lasagna corners. π
Step 8: Cover & Bake π₯
Cover the baking dish loosely with aluminum foil.
If necessary, spray the underside of the foil with cooking spray so the cheese doesn’t stick.
Bake at 375Β°F (190Β°C) for 25 minutes.
Step 9: Uncover & Make It GOLDEN π§π₯
Remove the foil.
Bake uncovered for another 15β20 minutes, until:
- Sauce is bubbling around the edges
- Cheese is completely melted
- Seafood is cooked through
- Top is lightly golden
Shrimp should reach 145Β°F (63Β°C).
For additional browning, broil for 1β2 minutes at the end.
Watch closely!
Step 10: REST THE LASAGNA β€οΈ
This part is important.
Let the lasagna rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
If you cut it immediately, all that beautiful creamy filling can run everywhere.
Give it time to settle.
Then cut a BIG square and watch those creamy seafood layers appear. π€€π¦π§
Shrimp & Crab Alfredo Lasagna π¦π¦
For an even richer Alfredo-style version, increase the Parmesan in the sauce to 1Β½ cups and add another Β½ cup heavy cream.
Skip the spinach if you want a completely white seafood lasagna.
Finish with mozzarella, Parmesan, parsley, and a little lemon zest.
Three-Seafood Lasagna π¦π¦π
Want to take it even further?
Use:
- ΒΎ lb shrimp
- 8 oz crab
- 8 oz scallops
Pat the scallops dry and quickly sear them for about 1 minute per side.
Cut larger scallops into pieces before layering.
This version is perfect for Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, or a special family dinner.
Cajun Seafood Lasagna π₯
Season the shrimp with 1Β½ teaspoons Cajun seasoning.
Add:
- Β½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- Pinch of cayenne
- Β½ cup pepper Jack cheese
You can even sautΓ© a little diced bell pepper with the seafood.
Creamy + spicy + seafood = YES. π₯π¦
Green Chile Seafood Lasagna πΆοΈπ¦
Now THIS one is good.
Add 1β1Β½ cups roasted Hatch/New Mexico green chile, very well drained and chopped.
Fold half into the cream sauce and scatter the rest through the seafood layers.
Replace 1 cup mozzarella with Monterey Jack.
You get:
Shrimp + crab + creamy garlic sauce + roasted green chile + melted cheese. πΆοΈπ¦π§π₯
Extra Recipe Tips & Variations β¨
Use raw shrimp, not fully cooked shrimp, whenever possible.
Drain the crab extremely well.
Don’t make the cream sauce overly thick before baking.
Freshly grated Parmesan melts much better than shelf-stable powdered Parmesan.
Whole-milk ricotta produces a richer filling.
Fresh mozzarella can release considerable moisture, so low-moisture shredded mozzarella is usually easier for lasagna.
Don’t overload each layer with seafood. Distribute it evenly so every slice gets shrimp and crab.
Flavor Upgrades / Secret Tips π₯
π§ Use fresh garlic in both the seafood and cream sauce.
π Lemon zest brightens the richness without watering down the sauce.
π¦ Season the shrimp before layering.
π¦ Fold the crab gently so some larger pieces remain.
π§ Use freshly grated Parmesan.
πΏ Add parsley after baking for fresh flavor.
πΆοΈ Add roasted green chile for a Southwestern seafood version.
π₯ Broil the top briefly for those gorgeous browned cheese bubbles.
My Secret Upgrade β€οΈ
Add 2 tablespoons of dry white wine to the skillet immediately after cooking the shrimp.
Let it bubble for about 30β60 seconds before removing from the heat.
That little splash adds restaurant-style depth to the seafood flavor.

Storage & Meal Prep Tips π₯‘
Cool leftovers promptly and refrigerate in an airtight container for 3β4 days.
Reheat individual portions covered at 350Β°F (175Β°C) until thoroughly hot.
A tablespoon or two of milk or cream added before reheating can help restore the creamy texture.
Make Ahead
Assemble the lasagna up to 24 hours ahead.
Cover tightly and refrigerate.
Because seafood is delicate, I prefer assembling it the day before at most.
Bake directly from the refrigerator, allowing approximately 10β15 additional minutes if necessary.
Can You Freeze It?
Yes, although creamy sauces and seafood can change texture slightly after freezing.
For best quality, freeze tightly wrapped for up to 1β2 months and thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)
What seafood works best in lasagna?
Shrimp and crab are an excellent combination. Scallops, lobster, or firm white fish can also be incorporated.
Can I use imitation crab?
Yes. The flavor and texture will differ from lump crab, but it works as a more economical option.
Can I use frozen shrimp?
Absolutely. Thaw completely and pat VERY dry before cooking.
Why did my seafood lasagna become watery?
Common causes are wet spinach, undrained crab, watery mozzarella, or seafood that wasn’t dried properly.
Can I use Alfredo sauce from a jar?
Yes for a shortcut, although homemade garlic Parmesan cream sauce gives the lasagna much richer flavor.
Can I leave out the ricotta?
Yes. You can make additional cream sauce and use more mozzarella and Parmesan between the layers.
Can I add lobster?
Absolutely. Cooked lobster meat makes an excellent special-occasion addition. Fold it into the layers gently and avoid overcooking.
What cheese goes best with seafood lasagna?
Mozzarella, Parmesan, ricotta, and cream cheese work particularly well because they complement rather than completely overpower the seafood.
