I know we’ve all seen commercials claiming to kill 99.9% of germs on your surfaces. .. I personally do not buy this philosophy and know that we need exposure to germs so that our bodies can build up their natural immunity.
For many, using Clorox® disinfectant wipes or Lysol® sprays are used daily with the promise of keeping your family “healthy”. But what is the trade-off, and what other harmful chemicals and carcinogens are we exposed to when we use these products?
I always swing when I see someone wipe a child’s toy with a Clorox® swab. All I can think of is the next time the child puts that toy in his mouth … what are the remaining chemicals and harmful ingredients he or she ingests?
Lysol® spray commercials have to be my lastest bother with pets showing a mom raising a comforter and spraying her baby’s crib with Lysol®. Ah, I just want to shout at the TV, “What are you doing?” “What do people learn? Please stop this madness!
You might think I’m overreacting a little, but what are the ingredients in Clorox Disinfectant Wipes?
- Ingredients :
° An old shirt or other soft cloth cut into squares
° Glass storage container (I used a 1L Mason jar)
° 1/2 cup white vinegar
° 1/2 cup water
° 10-15 drops of essential oils (lemon, tea tree, thief, grapefruit, lavender are great options). I like to use lemon or grapefruit.
- Instructions :
Mix water, vinegar, and essential oils together.
Stack together fabric squares, roll them up, and put them in the jar. (Or just put it in your own container)
Pour the mixture of water and vinegar evenly on the cloth. Shake well to make sure all of the cloth has soaked in.
Note: These are reusable. Just toss them in the washing machine and make a fresh batch. If you have liquid residue, you can reuse it as well.
