INGREDIENTS
1 onion, finely chopped
3/4 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon mustard powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1 (3- to 4 pounds) pork shoulder, trimmed of excess fat
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Coleslaw, for serving
Buns, for serving
How to make Slow-Cooker Pulled Pork
Step 1: In the bowl of a slow cooker, combine the onion, ketchup, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, and spices.
Step 2: Season with salt and pepper the entire pork shoulder. Add this to the slow cooker. Spoon the ketchup mixture over to cover the pork shoulder.
Step 3: Set on high and cook for 5 to 6 hours or 8 to 10 hours on low until the pork shoulder is fork-tender.
Step 4: When done, take the pork out of the slow cooker. Using 2 forks, shred the pork, then mix with juices from the slow cooker.
Step 5: Serve the pulled-pork on buns alongside some coleslaw.
